The holiday in honor of the summer solstice is one of the main rituals of our ancestors. This is an unusual time when the sun in the sky “plays and shimmers” especially brightly.
Before the Kupala night, the girls went to the glades to collect herbs and discuss how to tell fortunes. It was believed that the herbs collected in the Kupala time had healing and miraculous powers.
The guys didn't sit idly by either. I had to prepare dry branches for a fire, and then change into devils or crowberries to scare the girls.
Everyone jumped over the fire - both young people and old people. It was believed that the Kupala fire destroys all evil that interferes with human life.
