June 18, 2023 from 11.00 to 16.30
The First World War is one of the most tragic and at the same time little-known pages of our history. This conflict turned the lives of millions of people upside down, destroyed 4 empires, including the Russian one, which became the impetus for Belarusians to acquire their statehood. But it is worth remembering that this is one of the bloodiest wars in the history of mankind. More than 1 million of our compatriots died, almost 2 million people became refugees, thousands of villages and towns were destroyed.
On June 17-18, at the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, we will remember the events of those difficult times as part of the military-historical festival for the reconstruction of the events of the First World War. The organizer of the event, in addition to the museum, is the cultural and historical foundation for the memory of the First World War "Kroki" with the support of the historical and cultural complex "Stalin's Line".
The main action of the festival is the battle between the German and Russian troops during the beginning of the Baranovichi operation, when in 1916 the Russian troops of the Western Front tried to “break through” the defense of the German units on the front line near Baranovichi in order to support the strike of the troops of the South-Western Front, which carried out this moment of the famous "Brusilovsky breakthrough".
It should be remembered that in the Russian Imperial Army there were more than 200 units of Belarusian origin. Among them are the Life Guards Grodno Hussar Regiment, the 54th Minsk Infantry Regiment, Molodechensky, Kobrinsky, Forest, Bobruisk, Lida Regiments. Some of the listed regiments even had appropriate quarters and took part in the above-described hostilities. Many famous Belarusians participated in the war, became famous for their exploits and courage. Among them we can recall our famous writers and poets - J. Kupala, J. Kolas, M. Goretsky (awarded 2 medals for courage).
The reconstruction will take place in a traditional Belarusian village of the late 19th - early 20th century. surrounded by original monuments of wooden architecture. You are waiting for: soldiers in full military equipment, weapons, pyrotechnics and much more.
We invite everyone to take part in the festival and attend an interactive lesson on the history of the First World War!
