The first mowing is a significant and important holiday for our ancestors. At the first mowing, the whole village gathered for a huge cleanup. Toloka called mutual assistance in the performance of the most labor-intensive work in the economy.
It is a collective labor custom, ancient in origin and noble in nature. On the cleanup, in addition to work, people rested together and ate food, which also had a magical meaning.
The joint use of porridge in the field was supposed to bring fertility to the earth and well-being to people, and also reminded of the belonging of each participant in the cleanup to the common team. Treating with a drink symbolized the provision of moisture to fields and gardens, watering hands - moistening the land. During work and feasts they sang meal or drinking songs.
The Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Life invites everyone to join the holiday and see unusual traditions!
