Quiet whispers, noise and signs from God himself - all this testified to the beginning of Zazhinki. A well-started harvest provided plentiful supplies of grain, fragrant and tasty bread on the table of the hosts all year round.
At the first exit into the field, a small sheaf of rye was sown, which was called the Master. The first sheaf symbolized the well-being and happiness of the family and the entire community. It was believed that the sheaf had magical abilities, so it was revered in every possible way: it was decorated with a red ribbon, placed in a red corner, its grains were mixed into ritual dishes, seeds and drinks.
We invite you to visit the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Life to see the traditions associated with harvesting, hear traditional stubble songs and tunes on musical instruments!
